Hubbell
Paul R. Opland, 78, a lifelong resident of the Copper Country, passed away Tuesday morning at the Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.
Paul was born on August 21, 1932 in Laurium, a son of Walter & Cecelia Opland. He attended local schools and graduated from Calumet High School. Paul lived most of his life in Laurium and then in 1995 he made his home in Big Traverse.
He was proud to serve 2 tours of duty with the U.S. Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Phillipine Sea and the U.S.S. Hornet both during the Korean War. Upon his return, he worked in the Commercial Fishing Business on his own boat. Then for 20 + years he was employed as a Construction Worker for several different local contractors.
He was a member of the VFW Post 3900 of Calumet.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Walter & Cecelia and 1 sister, Beatrice Greif.

2 brothers, Bruce (Gloria) Opland of Port Ste. Lucie, FL
Eric (Stephanie) Opland of Monroe, MI;
2 nephews, Steven Opland of Monroe, MI
Donald Greif of Mesa, AZ
2 nieces, Sandra LeFevre of Mesa, AZ
Angela Opland of Port Ste. Lucie, FL;
Graveside Service and Military Honors will be conducted in the spring.
Burial will be in the Veteran’s Section of the Lake View Cemetery.
The Erickson Crowley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
