Mary Pekar, age 89, a resident of Bumbletown Road, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 3, 2016 at Our Lady of Mercy Health and Rehab.
She was born on July 31, 1926 in Allouez, Michigan to John and Mary (Bescael) Pekar.
Mary attended both the Allouez School and Calumet High School. After attending the local schools, Mary at the age of 16, went on to work in the factories making streetlights in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She lived and worked in Wisconsin for 56 years, returning to the Keweenaw in 1997 to live in her family home to care for her brother, Alex.
She also liked to knit, crochet, sew, and taking care of her houseplants. She especially loved to make personalized Christmas stockings for family and friends.
Mary was a member of the St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet.
She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; John Jr., Julius, and Alex, a sister Elizabeth.

and numerous cousins who live in Milwaukee and in Hungary.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday March 5, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet with Father Abraham Mupparathara to officiate and Deacon Art Stancher to assist. Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Saturday March 5, 2016 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
