Kayla Nancy Korpela, 23, of Hancock, Michigan passed away on Friday, February 6th 2015 at UP Health System- Portage.
Kayla was born in Hancock on November 16, 1991. She is the daughter of Clark and Lori Korpela. She attended and graduated from the Hancock School system. Kayla loved to work with her grandparents Orval and Nancy Korpela. She had a special place in her heart for her niece Jojo, and loved spending time with her.
Preceding her in death was her grandparents Orval and Nancy Korpela and Arthur and Marion Erickson.
She is survived by her parents and siblings, Amanda (Ross) Cooney of Houghton, Craig Korpela of Hancock, Tyler (Susan) Korpela of Dollar Bay, Jessica (Brandon) Hokenson of Dickinson, North Dakota, Amber (Brian) Scott of Mason, Brittany (Loren) Turnquist of Dollar Bay, Brianna (James) Spelich of Kearsarge, and David Sohlden of Beaverton, Michigan. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Kayla was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock.
God made a sweet child
He made a smile of sunshine
He molded a heart of pure gold
God planted her in our garden
Like a flower she grew in the springtime

Visitation will be Wednesday February 11th at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet from 5pm to 8pm and 1 hour prior to the service. Funeral services for Kayla will be held Thursday, February 12th at 11:00 am at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, with Ron Jouppe to officiate, all are welcome.
Spring burial will be in the Oscar Cemetery.
