Obituary for Mary Clare LeVeque

Mary Clare LeVeque, age 63, passed away peacefully, on March 13, 2023, at Atlantic House in Hancock Michigan while under the loving care of her family, Copper Country Mental Health staff, and UP Health Systems Home Care and Hospice.

Mary Clare was born January 13th, 1960, daughter of the late, Clarence and Mary (Filipovich) Leveque. She grew up in Calumet and attended Special Education training facilities. For the first 43 years of her life, Mary Clare lived in the family home in Calumet.

Mary Clare loved music, with a special affinity for the classic rock, and country/western genres. She would sing along , word for word, with old TV musical programs, such as Lawrence Welk and Hee Haw. Mary had a very special friend, Kelly, a yellow Labrador, and the two of them were inseparable. Mary Clare loved being outdoors and enjoyed her daily rides with Mom, whether the sun was shining or snow was falling. She loved family gatherings , picnics and simply sitting in the garage with dad, watching traffic pass by. Mary had a terrific sense of humor and was usually the center of attention.

After Mom and Dad passed away, Mary Clare relocated to Atlantic House in Hancock, under the auspices of Copper Country mental Health. where she enjoyed daily car rides, listening to her favorite music, and family get-togethers. She was very sociable and loved when her family would gather around her. Mary was especially fond of cuddling with her furry friends Bunny, George and Wally.

We want to express an extra special thank you to Copper Country Mental Health, especially the Atlantic House staff, Hospice staff and so many others who treated Mary Clare as tho she was part of their own families. Through their dedication and skills working with the developmentally disabled she lived a life of daily enjoyment. Mary Clare taught us to live in the present. She was not worried about the future and did not dwell on the past.

Mary Clare was preceded in death by her father Clarence, mother Mary, and her brother Larry. She is survived by brother Dan (Rosemary) LeVeque, brother Joe LeVeque, nephews Eric (Kim) Leveque, Mark (Beata) LeVeque nieces Michelle (Brad Streu) LeVeque, Casey (Brandon) Baird and numerous friends and relatives.

Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home, Calumet is assisting the family with arrangements. A spring burial with graveside service is being planned.
