Obituary for Mary Margaret Jacques

Mary Margaret “Tom” Jacques, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 6th, surrounded by her children at the Omega House in Houghton where she had been a resident for a short time. She was born in Laurium on March 24, 1946 to Henry and Dorothy (Giles) Thomas. She was a 1964 graduate of Calumet High School, and was a lifelong resident of the Calumet-Laurium area. On August 6, 1966, she was united in marriage to David “Butch” Jacques. Butch preceded her in death on December 13, 2009.

Mary worked as a telephone operator, a sales associate at the Sear’s catalog store in Calumet, and later worked as a waitress at local restaurants. During her 40’s, Mary decided to further her education at Suomi College in Hancock. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, Sunday drives, bingo, and coffee with friends. She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in athletics and other school activities, as well as spending time at the camp in Bootjack.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers Robert, Delbert, and Burtin; sister Elizabeth “Lizzie”, and baby sister.

She is survived by her sons Sean (Theresa) Jacques of Calumet, Shane (Liisa) Jacques of Hancock; daughters Shannon (Erik) Lehto of Laurium, and Shanda (Erik) Miller of Lake Linden. Grandchildren Emilie Jacques, Brendan (Lexie) Jacques, Chelsea Jacques, Carli Jacques, Davin Lehto, Caden Lehto, Teegen Miller, and Dallas Miller. Her brothers, Ronald Thomas of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, Rodney “Butch” (Mary) Thomas of West Allis, Wisconsin; sisters Roberta “Bea” (Harv) Gasperich of Calumet, and Rosie Wickstrom of Calumet. Sisters-in-law, Mary Gipp, Sue Lahti, and Sherry Thomas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, January 10 at 12:30pm at Sacred Heart Church in Calumet with Father Gracious Pulimoottil to officiate. Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Tuesday between 10:00am-12:00pm. Burial will take place in the spring in Lake View Cemetery.
