Obituary for Gary R Raisanen

Gary Raisanen, age 80, of Calumet, passed away on Sunday August 7, 2022, at U.P Health Systems Marquette, where he had been a patient for the last month.

He was born on May 6, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan. He grew up in Osceola Location in Calumet, Michigan with his parents Edwin + Mildred Raisanen and his two sisters. Gary was a graduate of Calumet High School.

On May 3, 1969, he was United in Marriage to Judith Lampela. They were married for 53 years and had 4 children.

He was employed at various jobs including Quality Super Value Foods for over 20 years and the CLK Public Schools as a custodian and bus driver. After retiring from the school, he worked at the Community Action Agency as a bus driver.

He was a member of the Michigan National Guard for 16 years, including time during the 1968 Detroit riots.

Gary was an admirer of antique cars. He did restoration on several cars, including his own blue 1937 Ford Coupe, which people identified as “Gary’s car”.

Gary was also a talented woodworker, making many pieces of furniture for his family.

He was always willing to give anyone a helping hand. Gary was a wonderful Husband, Father, and Grandpa.

Gary is survived by his wife Judy, two sons Steven and Dale, and two daughters Amy Raisanen, and Laurie (Dave) Outinen. Gary is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Rachel, Nolan and Dylan Jenich, Madelyn and Malorie Klobuchar, Damon, Lillie, Cooper and Violet Raisanen, Vanessa and Lacie Mosher, his two sisters Carol Gipp and Sandra Bonenfant and nephews Scott and Chris Gipp, Stuart Crewdson and niece Kristi Naas.

The Family would like to thank Dr. Dawn Lee and Aspirus Home Health Care and Hospice for the great care given to Gary over the past few years.

A visitation will be held for Gary on Thursday August 11, 2022, from 3pm-6pm in the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home followed by a funeral service with Pastor Jared Howard at 6pm. A celebration of life will follow the funeral service in the Siskiwit Reception Hall. Burial will take place at Lakeview cemetery in Calumet on Friday at 10am in section 77.

The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home will be assisting the family with arrangements.
