Obituary for Vickie Lynn Schmitt (Hendrickson)

Vickie L. (Hendrickson) Schmitt, 70, a former resident of Laurium passed away peacefully at the Omega House in Houghton, Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

She was born in Laurium to Victor and Mildred "Millie"(Jurmu) Hendrickson, February 27, 1952, but grew up in Copper City and graduated in 1980 from Calumet High School.

On August 4th, 1975, Vickie married the love of her life, John W. Schmitt, they shared 28 years of marriage until his death in 2003.

She worked for Columbia Linen Services and retired from DeMars Market in 2003.

Vickie loved playing words with friends and watching classic black and white movies and very well known as a "Wing Nut" for her love of the Detroit Red Wings which went along with her passion for home decorating, dedicating a room in her house, known as the "Red Wing" room. She loved cooking, converting many of the finickiest of eaters, everyone enjoyed the meals she made. She liked having pretty gardens and watching the birds, claiming Michigan's bird should actually be the Chickadee, because at least the Chickadee stays here for the winters. Vickie used to enjoy crafts, ceramic painting crocheting and plastic needle point work and bowling, belonging to Millers women's bowling league for many years.

She is preceded in death by her Husband, John W. Schmitt, an infant brother, Michael, her parents, Victor and Mildred "Millie" Hendrickson, a sister, Marilyn DeMars, and a brother, Daniel Hendrickson.

She is survived by:

Her sister, Candase (Calvin) Harju of Traprock Valley
Her children: Lisa(Dale) Cook of Ripon, Wisconsin.
Scot (Tracy) Somero of Fayetteville, Tennessee.
Heidi (Dennis) Laplander of Laurium. Julie Schmitt of Houghton.

Her grandchildren: John Cook, Ashley Cook, Kellie (Nate) Prieber, Caleb Hill, Tyler Laplander, Hailey Laplander, Chloe Cline and Trina Cline.

Her great grandchildren: Bentley Cook, Drew Cook and Piper Niemuth.

Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends, Michiele and Jolene.

Per Vickie's request a private family gathering will take place at the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek, where she will finally be reunited with her beloved John.
