Obituary for Shirley Mae Kytta (Carlson)

Shirley Mae (Carlson) Kytta of Negaunee/Lac La Belle passed away on Friday, May 21st to celebrate her 81st birthday with her Lord and Savior. She was born on May 21, 1940 in Detroit. She graduated from Hancock Central High School in 1958 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education, with a Major in Chemistry and Minors in Math and Music from Northern Michigan University in 1962. Shirley loved music and played the organ at numerous churches for over 50 years.
She was the daughter of Herman and Ethel (Hella) Carlson who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death are her brothers Roger, Ronald, Dennis, and Edwin Carlson. Surviving is her sister Elaine Mattson of Alaska.
She married Gordon Kytta on June 16th, 1962 in Calumet. They had three sons, Karl (Diane) of Marquette, Keith (Mary Jo) of Negaunee, and Ken (Kristin Ann) of Chassell. She adored her seven grandchildren Allyson (Zack) Radue, Madison, Collin, Karsten, Kurtis, Kolson, Kalvin and one great- grandchild Kinsley Mae Radue.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 25th at 1:00 PM in the Ericson Crowley Funeral Home outdoor garden with the Rev. Jay Weidner officiating. Visitation will begin at 11am prior to service on Tuesday.
Memorials can be made to the Gideons International P.O. Box 312 Hancock, MI 49930 of which Shirley and Gordon have been members since 1972.
