Obituary for Martin Robert Bessolo

Martin “Marty” Bessolo, 58, a resident of Calumet passed away on Sunday December 20, 2020 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Due to complications from to Covid-19.
He was born on July 26, 1962 in Laurium to Gordon and Enid (Koopikka) Bessolo. He attended the local schools and graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1980. During high school he played Calumet High school hockey and he also played baseball. Following high school, Marty attended Michigan Tech University where he earned a certificate in welding.
On April 24th, 1981 he was united in marriage to Lora Ahonen. Marty and Miki lived downstate where Marty worked at Weld Mold for eight years. Before wanting to move back to the UP to be near familiy.
Once he moved moved back to the Copper Country he started working with the Keweenaw County Road Commission for 14 years, retiring in 2004.
Marty was a very dedicated and passionate deer hunter. He shared his passion for deer hunting with his father, brother, children, nephew,and his grandchildren. He was also a passionate fisherman. Often you could find him stream fishing or fishing in various tournaments with his dad and brother. He enjoyed being out in the woods picking mushrooms and pine cones as well.
Marty also loved to watch his grandsons play hockey he made it to as many games as he could.
He is preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents, his father, Gordon Bessolo, and 2 special uncles Dennis and Mickey.
He is survived by:

Philip Bessolo of Calumet
Dave Bessolo of Kearsarge
His grandchildren: Donald Nicely III, Dominick Nicely, Connor and Marissa Bessolo, Avery and Ashlyn Bessolo, and Dawson J. Bessolo
His mother: Enid Bessolo (Carl O'brien) of Ahmeek
His siblings: Michael (Laurel) Bessolo of Calumet
Mary Kay (Dan) Short of Kingsford
Marcy (Eric) Hermanson of Ahmeek
And numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Per Marty’s wishes, a private family service will be held.
Burial will take place in the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.
