Obituary for Theodore David Tober

Tundra Ted Tober, 69, a resident of Allouez Township passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 peacefully at Eskimo Acres with Turks and Tater by his side.

He was born on September 30, 1948 in Mount Clemens, Michigan to Edward and Martha (Wiese) Tober.

He attended Utica High School and graduated with the Class of 1966.

During his high school years, Ted worked construction with his brother. He started his career as an apprentice with the International Union of Operating Engineers #324. He worked with the Union throughout Michigan and Wisconsin, along with working with several independent contractors as well. This past June he celebrated 50 years with the Union. In 1995 he became a certified Crane Operator.

Ted served with the United States Air Force for 4 years, he was honorably discharged in 1971.

Ted loved spending time with his brother up in Alaska. He enjoyed the fishing that he experienced there. He often said how spoiled he was with the fishing in Alaska.

He was also an avid hunter. He enjoyed deer hunting, however coyote season was his favorite. He tagged over 150 coyotes throughout his years of hunting. Ted was also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

Ted bonded with his son and two daughters through his love of hunting, firearms, the outdoors and tractors. His favorite time of the year was deer season because it was time for deer camp! His children and grandchildren will carry on the tradition of deer camp at Eskimo Acres.

Ted was also a John Deere enthusiast! Along with enjoying his John Deere green and yellow, he was an avid Green Bay Packers fan as well!

Ted also worked as a snowmobile trail groomer for several years for the Keweenaw Trail service. He especially loved when they purchased a John Deere groomer and he was able to go to work operating a John Deere nearly every day.

He loved spending time at Eskimo Acres, the property and house he built in 1990 outside of Mohawk. But he also enjoyed spending time socializing with the many friends he made over the years.

Ted loved his dogs. It was very rare to see Ted without his dog. Over his lifetime he had three yellow laboradors – Clancy, Alex, and Tige. His surviving dog, a golden retriever named Tink, will be left with a good friend to love and care for.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 291 in Lake Linden. He also served on the Legion’s board.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Martha Tober, his sister Leonotta, his brother, Donald, his grandson, Bradley King, Carmen and Brian Tober.

He is survived by:
His children:
Kristin “Turks” Tober of Lenox, MI
