Obituary for Cecilia M. Rangus (Vaive)

Cecilia M. Rangus, 104, a former resident of Calumet passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.

She was born on June 14, 1912 in Calumet to Joseph and Ann (LaForest) Vaive.

She attended Calumet High School and graduated with the Class of 1930.

Following high school, she moved to Iowa, where she helped and served her sister's family for more than 10 years. She returned to the area in the 1940’s and worked some years as a clerk in the Newberry store on Fifth Street.

On April 7, 1947 she married Anton Rangus in Calumet.

Cecilia was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet, a member of the Altar Society of St. Paul the Apostle, and a member of a local garden club. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress, gardener, and caregiver to her children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers, 5 sisters, daughters Mary Jo Brusseau and Bonnie Stancher, and sons George Rangus and Michael Rangus.

Cecilia is survived by her grandchildren: Neil Brusseau, Greg Brusseau, Melissa (John) Schneiderhan, Craig (Amber) Stancher, Christopher (Erina) Stancher, Bob Rangus, Brian Rangus, and great-grandchildren Ani, Ema, Axl, Lucia, Calum, and Addison. Also surviving are daughter-law Donna Rangus, and sons-in-law Barry Brusseau and Art (Beth O'Brien) Stancher.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM on Monday, April 10, 2017 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet with Father Abraham Mupparathara to officiate.

A Committal Service will be held later in the spring at Lake View Cemetery.
