Obituary for Derrill Ted Laurie

Derrill Laurie, 60, a resident of Mohawk passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, February 20, 2017.
He was born on May 26, 1956 in Laurium to Theodore and Mabel (Harry) Laurie.
He attended Calumet High School.
On September 7, 1985, he married Jean Floriani Weber at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge in Copper Harbor.
Derrill worked for the Keweenaw County Road Commission for 39 years, retiring in May of 2013.
Derrill had a love for his toys. He had quite the collection of Hot Rod cars through the years. He also enjoyed tinkering with anything that needed to be done outside and enjoyed plowing snow, both at and around his house, and for the Keweenaw County Road Commission.
Throughout the summer and winter seasons, Derrill loved spending time out at his camp in Helltown.
Derrill was a family man, he enjoyed spending time with his entire family, but especially his grandson, Aidan and special niece Alyssa and nephew Jordan.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Donna Nordstrom, and his father, Theodore Laurie.
He is survived by:

Son: James Floriani of Milwaukee
Daughter: Dawn McKellar of Ahmeek
3 grandchildren: Special Grandson, Aidan McKellar, Andrew Floriani, and Isabella Floriani, Mother Mabel Laurie of Copper City.
Brothers: Thomas (Sue) Laurie of Ahmeek
Ron (Cheryl) Laurie of Ahmeek
Scott Laurie of Mohawk
Kevin Laurie of Copper City
Sisters: Bonnie (Dave Shannon) Tuoriniemi of Ahmeek
Alecia (James) Gariepy of Mohawk
Robyn Laurie of Calumet,
Sister in laws, Jill (Scott) Anderson, and Jessica (Mark) Stanmeyer of Milwaukee.
Special niece and nephew: Alyssa Laurie and Jordan Laurie
And numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Per Derrill’s request, private family services were held.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations may be sent in Derrill’s name to KRACK (Keweenaw Random Acts Of Community Kindness) P.O. Box 343, Ahmeek, Michigan, 49901
