Obituary for Eleanor Martha O'Brien (Honold)

Eleanor M. O’Brien, age 94, a resident of Lake Linden passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital after a serious fall she sustained at home on Friday.

Eleanor was born on June 21, 1921 to Phillip and Martha (Greif) Honold in Laurium.

She grew up attending local schools and graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1940.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late Herbert O’Brien on her birthday, June 21, 1946.

For 30 years she worked as a nurse’s aide at the Calumet Public Hospital where she retired. Later she went back to work doing home care for people on her own.

Eleanor was an avid bowler and participated in the Senior League at Millers Lanes in Laurium. She was also involved with the Calumet Senior Center. For years she attended the church at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Laurium as the oldest member of the church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who passed on July 4, 1986, brothers George and Paul Honold, and sister Elsa (Bud) O’Brien.

She is survived by her daughter Nataline (Don) Norden of Lake Linden, grandchild Julie (Tim) Larkins of Dalton, GA, great-grandchildren Jack and Tyler Larkins, best friend Helen Sedar, grand-dog Barney, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Per Eleanor’s request, cremation has taken place, and private services will be held at a later date.
