Obituary for Bette M. Oja

Bette Oja, 85 a resident of Ahmeek passed away late Thursday night December 5, 2013 at the Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital where she had been a patient for the past few days.


Bette was born on March 25, 1928 in Copper City, Michigan a daughter of Eino & Ellen (Alatalo) Kytta. She attended local schools and was a High School graduate of Calumet.


On March 5, 1949 she married Edwin Oja.


Bette was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She worked for Keweenaw Mountain Lodge as a waitress many years. She was also a member of the Mohawk American Legion Post 230 Ladies Auxiliary.


Bette is preceded in death by her parents Eino and Ellen Kytta; and a sister and brother in law, Elsa (Ben) Niemi.


She is survived by:

Her husband, Edwin;


Sons, Dan (Nancy) Oja of Mohawk; Ron (Mary) Oja of Copper City;


Daughter, Sue (Mike) Marcinek of CA


3 grandchildren, Julianne (Joel) Tuoriniemi of Fulton; Michael (Sharon Harju) Oja of Mohawk; Mark (Sarah) Oja of North Carolina;


3 great grandchildren, Wyatt; Hanna; & Hunter;


Brothers, Phillip (Laverne) Kytta of Mohawk; Jon (Jackie) Kytta of Menominee.


The funeral service for Mrs. Oja will be held privately at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet.


Burial will take place at the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.


In lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorials may be given to the Bethany Lutheran Church 85 6th Street Mohawk, MI 49950.
