Obituary for Reuben James Anderson

Reuben J. “Becca” Anderson, 84, a former resident of Betsy/Mohawk, passed away on Friday December 9, 2016, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.
He was born on August 26, 1932 in Gay, Michigan to John and Ellen (Lyytikainen) Anderson.
He attended the Lake Linden Schools, graduating with the Class of 1949.
Following graduation, he enlisted with the United States Army, serving in Germany during the Korean War.
Reuben then worked for the Calumet & Hecla Mining Company until they closed. He and his family then moved to Ishpeming where he worked at the Mather B. Mine in Negaunee, retiring in 1992.
Following retirement he and his wife, Judy retired to the camp in Betsy and together they worked hard and the camp became their forever home and a constant destination for family and friends alike. There was nothing enjoyed more than time spent with people they loved and cared about. Reuben enjoyed hunting and fishing from their home and shared lots of stories at campfire gatherings.
He was a lay preacher at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Ishpeming and Chatam.
He was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church on Fulton, and the American Legion.
He married his life long friend Judith Karvonen on December 26, 1953.
He is preceded in death by his parents; John & Ellen, beloved wife; Judith in 2008, Brothers;

He is survived by:
Son: Glenn (Sandra) Anderson of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois
Grandson: Nick (Alena) Anderson of Howell, Michigan
4 great grandchildren: Cooper, Kirby, Iris, and Miles Anderson
Close Friend: Beatrice Lahti
And numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 11:00 am at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Calumet, with Pastor David Taivalkoski to officiate. Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
Burial will be held in the spring of 2017 at the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
