Obituary for Dorothy Rose Pietila (Lohman)

Dorothy Rose Pietila, born August 17, 1935 was welcomed into eternal life on August 6, 2016. After a three year known battle with Stage IV breast cancer. She was a fine gracious lady, loved by many!

She was a graduate of Calumet High School in 1953 and participated in planning and attending a number of alumni events. At 17 she bravely left home and headed to the city with suitcase in hand on the Greyhound bus to Milwaukee to make her way in the world. She worked a number of jobs before marrying the love of her life, John R. Pietila on November 5, 1955. He will miss her dearly. She was thirteen when she declared she was going to marry him one day. Together they were blessed to have and raise four children; Richard (Cheryl) Pietila, Ronald (Dawn) Pietila, Dale (Sherie) Pietila, and Debra (Guy) Scholler. All who love her beyond measure. They have 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

While raising her family she continued to obtain education and became a licensed Cosmetologist. Afterward she gave 19 years of service to the State of Wisconsin for the Bureau of Community Corrections of which she retired in 1992. She returned to the Copper Country and was happy to enjoy many trips and adventures while in good health. She especially loved her many vacations in Florida and sharing precious time with loved ones.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Thomas and Rose (Rosenberger) Lohman, her siblings: Patty, Jack, Carol and Paul Lohman, in-laws: Lavern Lohman and Skip Bartes.

She is survived by her loving brothers and dear sister and sister-in-laws: Tom (Carol) Lohman, Donald Lohman, and Mary (Ted) Weldum, Anne Lohman, Rose Lohman.

As well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and life long friendships as close as family, along with dear friends.

Her gentle spirit and loving ways will truly be missed by her big beautiful family, and countless special friends.
