Obituary for Florence Thelma "Flo" Anderson (Kuusisto)

Florence Thelma Anderson, of Calumet, age 72, passed away peacefully at her home, on April 15, 2015 after battling brain cancer since November 2012.


She was born to Thelma (Niemi) and Eli Kuusisto on May 20, 1942 in Laurium and lived her early life in Trimountain. After the death of her father in 1947, the family moved to Swedetown location of Calumet. Flo graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1960, and Northern Michigan University in 1964.


She taught first grade at South Range Elementary School for two years. On July 31, 1965 she married Clifford Anderson in Calumet.


In 1966 the couple moved to Seattle, Washington for a year, but returned Calumet in 1967. With her husband, she was an owner operator of a grade A dairy farm. After their retirement in February 1999, the couple spent time during each of the last 17 winters on South Padre Island, in Texas.


Flo was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Calumet.

Two Sisters: Louise Raasakka, and Evelyn Kuusisto.
Flo is survived by her husband of almost 50 years Clifford

Her Children: Lisa (Jeff) Andrews of Stuttgart, Germany; Dean (Marne) Anderson of Calumet; Paul Anderson of Calumet; Kurt (Laura) Anderson of Traprock Valley; Alan (Jen) Anderson of Negaunee; Craig (Sue) Anderson of Howell, Michigan; Daniel (Corinne) Anderson of Menahga, Minnesota; Lynn (Matt) Berg of Laurium; and Sarah (Bruce) Anderson of Atlantic Mine.

Two Sisters: Ruth (Karl) Parks of Ahmeek; and Mary Jane (Peter) Haapala of Esko, Minnesota

Brother-in-law: Paul Raasakka of Hancock

Visitation will he held on Friday April 17 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Calumet and one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday April 18 at 3:00 pm at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church with Pastor David Taivalkoski to officiate.

Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
